Well, you know how it goes. Sometimes life can be pretty busy and, which makes it hard to find time to plan a trip and get away. Or sometimes, once you tally all of the costs associated with leaving town, it makes more sense to just stay put. Either way, just because you can’t leave town doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a little downtime. Whatever your reason is for staying local, below are a few tips and fun ideas for planning a “staycation”.First and foremost, you must lay ground rules ahead of time. If your staycation is meant to be a productive one set in place to knock some much needed items off your to-do list, that’s fine. After all, it’s your staycation. However, if you’re looking to have a staycation that feels more like a vacation, there are a few things to consider. For starters, don’t do laundry or check your email (unless necessary). The idea is to give yourself a break. Eliminating those two activities is a step in the right direction. Decide what every day things you can eliminate doing to give yourself break.Next, set a budget and plan meals and activities in advance. If you are planning to eat in most of the time, consider picking a food theme for a few nights (i.e. Mexican Fiesta or Italian Pizzeria). Hit the grocery store ahead of time and pre-prepare meals if you can. As for activity planning, research your city (or one nearby) as if you were visiting it for the first time. Find a few activities around town that you haven’t done before. You can also plan some fun activities to do in your own backyard like camping, grilling, or a picnic. If you are able to splurge a little, think about scheduling a massage or hitting the links for a round or two of golf. You could also, plan a few “outside the home” activities like catching dinner and a movie or an evening ice cream date. Lastly, but most importantly, you have to relax and have fun on your staycation. Snap cheesy pictures, catch up on your recorded shows, read a book, and sleep in. Do exactly what you want to do even if that means doing nothing!
