    Description of settings for Windstream Webmail

    Here is a list of settings and how to modify them when using Windstream Webmail:

    How to Change your e-mail account password

    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click General.
    3. Click Change Password.
    4. You should be on the Self Care portal. For the User ID, put in your e-mail address. The password is your e-mail password. Click Login.
    5. Click on the link Change User Names, Passwords, and E-mail accounts.
    6. Type in your new password on the New Password field and click Change.
    7. Click Done.
    Change the time zone.

     

    The time zone setting affects the time sent stamp on outgoing messages.

    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click General.
    3. Click Time Zone.
    4. Select the city within your time zone.
    5. Click ok.
    Change your default 'From Name'.

    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. Enter your preferred From name in the From Name field.
    5. Click OK.
    Change your default 'From Address'
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. Click on Custom Setting and select the desired e-mail address on the drop down menu list.
    5. Click OK.
    Automatically save a copy of sent messages
    This will make a copy of every message you send to be stored in the Sent Mail folder.
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. On Sending Messages, click on the checkbox next to By default, save a copy in Sent Mail folder.
    5. Click OK. 
    NOTE: If you turn this option off, you can still save a copy of a message before you send it. 

    Automatically check the spelling of sent messages
    This will make the spell checker run on every message before you send it.

    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. On Sending Messages, click on the checkbox next to Spell check all messages you send.
    5. Click OK. 

    NOTE: If you turn this option off, you can still spell check a message before you send it. Click HERE for instructions on how to do this.

     

     

    Automatically use the Graphical Editor
    This will make Windstream Webmail default to using the Graphical Editor each time you compose a message.

     

    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. On Sending Messages, click on the checkbox next to By default, compose messages using the graphical editor .
    5. Click OK. 

    NOTE: If you turn this option off, you can still use the Graphical Editor to compose a message. 

     

     

    Automatically include the original message when replying
    When you reply to a message, this will make the original message part of it.

    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. On the Replying to Messages section, click on the checkbox next to Include message.
    5. Click OK.
    Choose a Reply Separator
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. Choose an option in the Reply Separator area.
    5. Click OK.
    Set the width of the message window
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. Enter a number in the Compose Width area.
    5. Click OK.
    Set the number of messages to display per page
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. Choose a number from the list in the Messages per Page area.
    5. Click OK.
    Automatically collect e-mail addresses
    1. When you send an e-mail, you can choose to automatically add the recipients to your Address Book.
    2. Click the Settings tab.
    3. Click Messages.
    4. Click Preferences.
    5. Choose an option in the Address Collection area.
    6. Click OK.
    Choose message list columns
    1. This will determine which columns you see when you look at your list(s) of messages.
    2. Click the Settings tab.
    3. Click Messages.
    4. Click Preferences.
    5. Choose one or more options in the Message List View area.
    6. Click OK.
    See your message size limit
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. Look for the Message Size Limit.
    See your mail server usage
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. Look for the Mail Server Usage.
    Set your mailbox capacity warning level 
    This determines at what point you get a warning that you are close to your mailbox capacity.
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Preferences.
    4. Enter a number that is less than 100 in the Set Warning area.
    5. Click OK.
    Set your signature
    This makes each message you compose have a signature at the bottom.
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Signature.
    4. Enter your signature in the space provided.
    5. If you want your signature to automatically appear at the end of messages you send, click the Auto-Insert box.
    6. Click OK.
    Set your vacation message
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Vacation Message.
    4. Enter your vacation message in the space provided.
    5. Select an option in the Message Rules section.
    6. Click OK.
    To turn off your vacation message:
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Vacation Message.
    4. Click the option Do not activate vacation message.
    5. Click OK.
    Create an message filter
    NOTE: Filters can take up to 30 minutes to come into effect.
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Message Filters.
    4. Click New Filter. 
    5. Enter the following information about the new filter:
      • Filter Name - What you want to call the filter.
      • Filter - What you want the filter to look for. You can have multiple filter lines:
        1. To add a line, click Add Operation
        2. To remove a line, click Remove next to the line you want to remove
      • Action - what you want to do with the messages the filter finds
    6. Click OK.
    Turn on mail forwarding
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Forwarding.
    4. Enter the e-mail address to which messages should be sent in the Forwarding Address area.
    5. Select an option in the Forwarding Rules section.
    6. Click OK.
    Turn off mail forwarding
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Forwarding.
    4. Click the Disable Forwarding option in the Forwarding Rules section.
    5. Click OK.
    Processing return receipts
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Return Receipts.
    4. In the area labeled When a message arrives that contains a request for a return receipt, choose how you want to handle requests for return receipts.
    5. In the area labeled When composing a message, choose whether you want to automatically request return receipts.
    6. Click OK. 
    If you turn this option off, you can still request a return receipt when you compose a message. 

    Filter junk mail

    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Junk Mail.
    4. Choose one of the available options.
    5. Click OK. 
    Allow/Block messages from certain senders and domains
    Windstream Webmail will block messages from all senders and domains listed in the Blocked list except those listed in the Allowed list. For example, this means you could block all messages from the domain abcdef.com except johndoe@abcdef.com.
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Allow and Block Messages.
    4. To turn message blocking on, click the option Advanced Block senders.
    5. In the Allowed Senders and Domains area, list the senders and domains you want to allow, separated by a line.
    6. In the Blocked Senders and Domains area, list the senders and domains you want to block, separated by a line.
    7. Choose an option in the Blocked Mail Actions section.
    8. Click OK.
    Turn message blocking on/off
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Allow and Block Messages.
    4. Click the option Do not block any emails.
    5. Click OK.
    Block/Unblock HTML images
    HTML messages can sometimes contain images that are used to notify the sender that your e-mail address is valid, which may increase the amount of junk mail you receive. If you choose to block HTML images, you can still choose to see them when you read the message.
    1. Click the Settings tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click Privacy.
    4. Choose an option in the External Images section.
    5. Click OK.
