Windstream Delivers 100 Mbps to 6,400 Locations in Dahlonega

The upgrade makes it possible for Windstream to deliver broadband over its cable TV network in Dahlonega for the first time.
With 100 Mbps Kinetic Internet, customers will be able to:
  • Download a 1 GB HD video in as little as 1 minute, 25 seconds
  • Download a High-Quality full-length album in as little as 4 seconds
  • Download 100 Hi-Res Photos in as little as 16 seconds
  • Play games online with less lag
  • Enjoy almost seamless video chatting
The new speeds were announced today at a ribbon cutting attended by state Sen. Steve Gooch of Dahlonega and other local officials.
“I’m excited to announce this significant milestone in the continuing enhancement of our network,” said Jarrod (J) Berkshire, president of operations in Georgia for Windstream. “We are committed to making faster, more reliable internet speeds available to our customers, and today’s announcement reflects one part of a comprehensive initiative that has been underway for several years. We will continue to enhance our service offerings throughout North Georgia.”
"Infrastructure investment in technology in the 21st century could be just as important as the creation of the interstate highway system was in the 1950s,” Gooch said. “I appreciate our local internet provider, Windstream, for making such a significant investment in Lumpkin County and the surrounding North Georgia counties.  With speeds competitive with those of a metropolitan region, we can be more aggressive in our economic development efforts in retaining and recruiting industries to our communities."
Citizens in Dahlonega whose homes or businesses are passed by Windstream’s cable TV network are eligible for 100 Mbps service. To inquire about service, call (877) 894-6391 or visit our retail store at 340 Wal-Mart Way in Dahlonega.
The cable upgrade plan, announced late last year, will provide 100 Mbps to more than 67,000 locations in 13 communities. In addition to Dahlonega, those communities are Blairsville, Hiawassee, Young Harris, Dawsonville, Helen, Homer, Cornelia, Commerce, Jefferson, Clarkesville, Nicholson, and Cleveland, as well as Hayesville, N.C.
