A leading provider of Internet services, Windstream is committed to giving back to the communities it serves. In June 2018, the company donated Kinetic Gig Internet service to Awesome Inc in Lexington, Ky., to support programs over the next five years. Awesome Inc offers leading technology education courses and a shared workspace environment to educate students, independent entrepreneurs and corporate teams.
“By providing gig service and adding a stronger Internet connection to Awesome Inc’s programming, we hope to aid in the future success of local entrepreneurs and small business owners in our community,” says Phillip McAbee, president of Windstream operations in Kentucky.
Gigabit Internet is the next generation of broadband service, providing a fast and reliable connection. Kinetic Gig by Windstream is delivered over fiber-optic lines and provides one-gig speeds, which allow you to download 100 photos or 100 songs in three seconds and an HD movie in seven seconds.
Windstream presented the organization with a check for $25,000 at the bi-monthly 5 Across event that nearly 200 people attended. The event is Lexington's own version of Shark Tank, in which local entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. The winning pitch takes home $500 dollars.
“It was a great success and turned out to be the perfect day to announce our partnership,” says Amanda Murray, Awesome Inc’s marketing director. “Since 2010, 5 Across has helped over 120 entrepreneurs gain valuable feedback, connect with key mentors and earn over $37,500 in prize money!”
