SYLVANIA, GA — Faster broadband is now available from Kinetic by Windstream. As part of a multi-year plan, $2 billion initiative to dramatically expand gigabit internet service, Kinetic has deployed fiber to bring blazing fast internet to the homes and businesses of Sylvania.
“On behalf of the City of Sylvania, I would like to thank Kinetic by Windstream for choosing Sylvania to build out their fiber network,” said Sylvania Mayor Preston Dees. “By having fiber-fast internet speeds available to our community, it sets our town apart and allows residents to live, work and go to school from home. This will improve the quality of life for our residents and could not happen without this great investment from Windstream.”
Attendance at the ribbon cutting celebration Monday morning included Grace Waits, Screven County Chamber of Commerce President, Preston Dees Sylvania Mayor, Representative Jon G. Bums, Daryl Barron, Director of Georgia Field Operations, Michael Foor, president of Kinetic Georgia Operations, and d several other members of the Sylvania community.
"I am pleased that Windstream is expanding broadband internet service in our community,” said Senator Max Burns. “As we've learned from the COVID pandemic, high speed internet is essential to education, healthcare and business. Broadband must be both ubiquitous and affordable for Screven County and Sylvania to thrive."
The deployment brings gigabit speeds to 913 homes and businesses in the area.
To date, Kinetic has invested $500 million in the state of Georgia and with investments over the last two to three years, Kinetic has brought gig speeds to 160,000 homes and businesses. In 2021, Kinetic will add another 40,000 plus gig-capable businesses and homes to the Georgia footprint. Additionally, Kinetic is working to be a part of a state funded $300 million grant program. If awarded, this will bring gig speeds to an additional 160,000 locations in rural Georgia.
"Few things are more important to rural Georgia’s continued development than access to quality broadband and expanding access to broadband for all Georgians is one of my top priorities,” added Representative Jon G. Burns. “All Georgians need broadband to run their businesses, educate their children, and receive quality healthcare. This increase in broadband access for Sylvanians is wonderful news, and I appreciate Windstream’s efforts to expand access in our region!"
