The unauthorized copying or distribution of copyright material is in many instances unlawful and can subject those who do so to potential civil and criminal liability. This is called copyright infringement. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was created to address the relationship between copyrighted works and the Internet. Windstream, consistent with federal law, prohibits the use of Windstream services for copyright infringement under its relevant agreements, terms of service, and Acceptable Use Policy.

Actions needed for the customer to take?

Windstream will forward DMCA notices it receives, which contain details of the copyright owner's allegation including:

  • the title of the specific copyrighted work
  • the date and time the alleged distribution occurred

If you do not comply with Windstream Policy or Windstream continues to receive complaints, your Windstream service could be terminated.
