T3200/T3260/T3280/T4220

Now that you’ve selected your modem, we’ll want to see what ‘encapsulation’ type your service is set up with.

Modem Interface
How to get into the Interface:

Open your browser to: http://192.168.254.254
Username: admin
Password: The password is located on a sticker on the side of the modem. This password is different on every single T3200/T3260/T3280/T4220 modem.

Once you’re logged into the modem:

  • Select ADVANCED SETUP
  • Select PROCEED at advanced user challenge screen
  • Select WAN IP ADDRESSING under the IP ADDRESS section on the left-hand menu
  • In SECTION 2, you should have either ‘PPPoE’ or “RFC 1483 via DHCP” selected.

Click the option below for your setup

PPPoE

RFC 1483 via DHCP (also known as IPoE)

PPPoE

With this type of connection, you have two options. Either IP Passthrough or Bridge Modem. Windstream can provide instructions on how to set up the Windstream Equipment for either mode. If you’re unsure which one to set up, we recommend speaking with your IT team or equipment manufacturer for the other devices on your network.

Click the option below for your desired setup

IP Passthrough

Bridge Mode

IP Passthrough

IP Passthrough is a setting where your modem is handing off the usable static IP to another piece of equipment. This mode will also allow Windstream to support the Windstream equipment while allowing you to configure your own equipment as needed.

Note: While the Windstream equipment firewall will be protecting the Windstream equipment, you should make sure the device behind the Windstream equipment is also configured with security settings. This could be a firewall within the equipment.

  • Select ADVANCED SETUP
  • Select PROCEED at advanced user challenge screen
  • Select WAN IP ADDRESSING under the IP ADDRESS section on the left-hand menu.
  • In SECTION 2, Leave the ISP Protocol as PPPoE.
  • In SECTION 4, Select to ENABLE Unnumbered PPPoE.
  • If you still want to connect devices to the wifi from the T3200/T3260, when setting up IP Passthrough make sure to select the checkbox for VIP Mode (Private LAN subnet under step 4).

The information entered for Gateway Address, Subnet Mask, Primary DNS, and Secondary DNS should be included in your Static Windstream Welcome Letter.

Once all the information is filled out, hit submit and you should be set up for IP Passthrough.

Depending on your overall set up, if you test your IP address online to see if it has worked, your modem may not show the correct IP address. If you filled out the information properly within the modem, then it is set up properly at the Windstream Equipment

Bridge Mode

Configuring a High-Speed Internet modem in Bridge Mode allows your PC, separate router or other device to establish a connection to the Internet. The device usually connects directly behind the High-Speed Internet modem and is configured with the PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) username and password.

*Note: When the modem is in bridge mode, the internal security of the modem is not on. For security on your network, check your settings on the device connected to the modem to ensure protection. This will most likely be a firewall in that device.

  • Select ADVANCED SETUP
  • Select PROCEED at advanced user challenge screen
  • Select WAN IP ADDRESSING under the IP ADDRESS section on the left-hand menu.
  • In SECTION 2, Select RFC 1483 Transparent Bridging
  • Select Apply to save any changes at bottom of screen.
  • The "Internet" light on the front of the modem should go solid RED. This indicates the modem is in Bridge mode.

Note: If you need to get the modem out of bridge mode, you will need to hard reset the device by pressing and holding the ‘reset’ button for 10 seconds

RFC 1483 via DHCP

IP Passthrough

IP Passthrough is a setting where your modem is handing off the usable static IP to another piece of equipment. This mode will also allow Windstream to support the Windstream equipment while allowing you to configure your own equipment as needed.

Note: While the Windstream equipment firewall will be protecting the Windstream equipment, you should make sure the device behind the Windstream equipment is also configured for your own security.

  1. Go to Advanced Setup, then select WAN IP Addressing
  1. Select RFC 1483 via DHCP
  1. Enable Unnumbered Mode. In the Gateway Address field set the first usable IP of the customer's static block along with the proper subnet mask. VIP mode is optional.
  1. If you still want to connect devices to the wifi from the T3200/T3260, when setting up IP Passthrough make sure to select the checkbox for VIP Mode (Private LAN subnet under step 4).
  1. Set DNS type to static and enter in Windstream's DNS IP's.
  1. Once these fields are set you can apply the settings. You must setup your router with one of the static IP's of your block. The gateway must be the IP address you set in our modem.

It is recommended to reboot the Windstream Equipment and any of your own equipment once the settings are in place.

The information entered for Gateway Address, Subnet Mask, Primary DNS, and Secondary DNS should be included in your Windstream Welcome Letter.

Once all the information is filled out, hit submit and you should be in IP Passthrough.

Depending on your overall set up, if you test your IP address online to see if it has worked, your modem may not show the correct IP address. If you filled out the information properly within the modem, then it is set up properly at the Windstream Equipment

Note: Anything using the Windstream Modem’s wireless may not be on the static IP. To use the static IP wirelessly, it is recommended to have a router connected to the Windstream Modem and have your devices connect to that wireless network instead.
